I am a road 04:53
From napalm to cluster bombs our friends at Textron clocking OT on the kill From bike locks to cell blocks you formed a barricade  and you haunt that doorway still And that’s the sound of the men who hold the power Screaming naked in the dark fluorescent tower “All the nails we need to overtake the hammer” - CAConrad Equal to the hands we need to hold the banner  Burned bars and white cars and whispered bible threats on a Florida highway “The moon was still visible but it could not save us” - Mark Baumer, “My hundredth day on the road” from Inauguration Day I remember the last thing I said to you Trying so hard be cool to hide my fear of you Like a coward hoarding tears after the funeral Like a fang seeks the throat of the Capitol
2.
You said, “everyone’s accountable” when I said, “everyone’s alone.” And I know you never meant to implicate me but there’s one belief you’ll never own And it’s a terrible salvation to see ahead by looking back Can I just say, you look incredible when you decide you’ve had enough? We die when nothing brings us happiness, so let’s die before this gets too rough And it’s a terrible salvation to see ahead by looking back
3.
White Ships 04:34
White ships on a grayscale sea in an open browser tab We’re half gone but we’re halfway home Pick those wounds until they scab Tried hard to make a difference but it faded fast These years haven’t been so kind Not to you or to me Last pic on your camera roll Last time you felt free You’d think we’d know the difference; Dream or memory? Broke down, broke out and broken in We stayed where our story begins We tried to take it on the chin, but time won’t allow us to win I know you won’t have to dwell: The past is a dead wishing well No doubt, the story comes out: We stay where our fate struck us out
4.
REDACTED 03:55
You were born in REDACTED you were the only kid Your father worked for Raytheon, but he never said what he did Your body was the battlefield of a forgotten war They’re still digging up ordinance, but no one knows what we were fighting for And you— You’re a shotgun in the night A lightning bolt in flight You’re a Halloween black light Time is like a Jets game: I’ve never seen it once but what a shame if all we shared was the violence? Tell me how the decade ends Write it like a song Harden it and seed the clouds A rain to right the wrong And you— You’re a laser on the moon Red light in the darkroom You’re the spark that fades too soon And you are an arc light in the sky You’re a raging firefly You are the falling satellite who never understood the night You’re a Halloween black light The spark that fades too soon You’re a laser on the moon
5.
Shit guitar Cheapest piece of junk in the whole store but the rat, cranked, made it roar I played it well But then again, I couldn’t really tell In the basement Sabbath swell In the night, we believed we could make it out by the dim light of stars 13 Songs No matter how we tried it sounded wrong But we kept on going strong In the back of the station wagon solid state half stack There’s a sound I can’t get back We were aching to be the next discovery Set our clocks by the stars The substance of dreams can burn through the seams when you don’t know who you are or who you’ll be on T.V. or on glitched CDs fading memory
6.
Siren 03:07
“There is no louder siren than the one outside the door” — CAConrad Are we ready to offer a desperate thread to unwind a resonant forgiveness? an argument for beauty after all
7.
The By & By 06:44
Where will we go when the lights go out? Do you think the center will hold? After the flood? The terrible sound— The sweep of the ageless clouds? No one ever told you this is how your life would be: Just the two of us marching and dancing toward the end The bag on the left — the one by the door? The one we pray we’ll never use The map of the road The veins on your neck The past: a terrible mess No one ever told me just how sharp a heart could be Just the two of us marching and dancing toward the end

about

"The Unstruck Bell" is the newest offering from John Kolodij (guitar), Matthew Derby (guitar/vocals), and Rick Prior (drums) since playing their last show over 20 years ago. Recorded by Seth Manchester at Machines With Magnets, it is the result of a year of unbridled creativity for the band during an era of unprecedented crisis.
